At B Pilates and Yoga we practice Yoga and Pilates in a relaxed atmosphere, accommodating all abilities with appropriate modifications and progressions to suit. Adhering to small focussed classes with a maximum of 12, we ensure the appropriate attention can be given and received without exception.
We define each session from level 1 to level 3 in terms of ability. At all levels, we incorporate exercises to benefit the body as a whole – only when the system is considered as one unit can it work as one unit – true balance. If the session that you are attending needs to be tailored to suit you it will be – we can adjust in real time to ensure that the class is productive and enjoyable.
Don’t get too concerned with the levels – worry more about fitting the practice in. It only works if you do it!
Whatever the level the fundamental aim of Pilates is to strengthen the body’s powerhouse. The Powerhouse is a Pilates term that refers to your abdominals, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, hips, and glutes. Strength here means, essentially, a more resilient system – one that is less likely to cause pain, less prone to injury and more able to move as it ought to. Pilates can aid in flexibility and improve posture, as stretching your body is a vital part of the class.
Basically, the Stability Ball forces proper spine alignment. Because an exercise ball is not stable, your body works hard to try to balance itself on it. The perfect spinal posture offers the best balance so as your body adjusts and re-adjusts to balance your spine will fall into the proper alignment automatically. Performing classic Pilates exercises using the ball adds a level of difficulty that is effective in making you work harder than you would otherwise do.
Freestyle Fitness Yoga
Freestyle Fitness Yoga (FFY) is a brilliantly effective session. We focus on classic yoga postures that challenge the skeletal muscles to build strength and flexibility. FFY is validated from a fitness perspective so you not only understand what you’re being asked to do but also why. We work to increase the range of motion around the joints – specifically the hips, tone up quickly – especially the mid-section – and impart a wonderful sense of well-being.
